Happiness is here and now! The global spiritual leader, Thich Nhat Hanh, says: “There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way”. We are not living our lives to reach the state of happiness in the future. Our happiness depends on us. We can simply choose to feel happy right now. We have the capacity to create our joy at any time. Isn’t it amazing? Imagine feeling happy, peaceful and free right at this moment.

It’s simple. When we look around us, we can think of many things we are grateful for and we start feeling that warmth in the heart. It’s easy to be grateful for the nice weather, the sunny day, the fresh food on the table or for the company of another person.

Happiness is being content with who we are and with what we already have. When we look deeply, we realize that we don’t really need much more beyond that. Even those difficult times in life gradually melt away and transform into understanding, compassion and joy for ourselves and for others.

Use these simple tips that help you experience happiness and joy:

  1. Practice mindfulness. It is the ability to focus on the present moment and to know what’s happening in the here and now. For example, when we are eating, our mind is with the food, its flavor, texture, color etc. We don’t think about anything else; we are only paying attention to eating a meal.
  2. Take time for self-care. Spend valuable time with the people you love or even spend some moments alone. You may enjoy reading, watching a movie, drinking tea or meditating. Cancel a meeting, get a massage or go for a walk.
  3. Look around and notice a few simple things that you are grateful for. Really simple things.
